Additional assessments

We regret that we have felt it necessary to vote “NO” on the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District assessment.

We are opposed to any additional assessments to our property taxes. We also feel uncomfortable with the open ended 3 percent increases.

Just this election we have three proposed assessments to our property taxes:

1 – Nevada county Consolidated Fire District

2 – Measure G Sierra Joint Community College District

3 – Proposed Nisenan Recreation and Park District

We feel this is counter to Proposition 13, which was intended to hold the line on our property taxes.  Once government agencies find out they can increase our taxes in this manner the flood gates will open and our property taxes will become fair game for every agency.

We will gladly send $89 to the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, but not as an assessment to our property taxes.
