Ackerman oblivious to real world?

Jeff Ackerman, in his Tuesday column, stated that he cannot figure out why many Americans are unhappy and miserable. Let me reveal the facts. Jeff.

More than 3,400 of our military personnel have died in an unnecessary war in Iraq. More than 26,000 are wounded, many hideously. Many thousands of Iraqis have died and billions of dollars have been wasted. Something to cheer about!

The American health system is in shambles. Millions are without health insurance, and the cost of health care keeps rising.

The outsourcing of jobs to foreign countries is something to be happy about. Here in California, Hershey Chocolate Co. is closing its Oakdale factory, laying off about 500 workers, and opening a factory in Mexico. Happy days for those employees.

The Bush administration wants to prolong the Iraq war. Its environmental policies are pitiful.

There are terrible wildfires on both coasts, with more expected, and tornadoes in the Midwest. The people in Greensburg, Kan., are overjoyed.

Mr. Ackerman must have his head in the sand. With his dark rum and orange juice, he must be oblivious to what is happening in the real world.

I didn’t mention the border crisis because of space limitations.
