Today marks the first day candidates can file to run in the June 6 primary election and this morning State Sen. Sam Aanestad (R-Grass Valley) announced he had plans to be among the first in line at the Nevada County Elections Office.

A press release from his office said that Aanestad would be at the Willow Valley Road office at 9 a.m. today to officially file for re-election “shortlay after (the office) opens for business.”

“My primary goal for the district will continue to be economic development – the creation of new business opportunities and new jobs. While we’ve had some success in this effort, more can be done,” he said in the release.

Aanestad is anoOral and maxillofacial surgeon from Penn Valley. He and his wife Susan, a registered nurse, are the parents of three grown children. He represents more than one million constituents in a 12-county district, which includes all or part of Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Glenn, Nevada, Placer, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Tehama, Trinity and Yuba counties.
