2002 studio tour bigger than ever

To accommodate the increasing number of participating artists and viewers browsing each year at the Western Nevada County Studio Tour, this year’s tour is twice as large.

The Nevada County Arts Council has added an extra weekend to the fifth annual tour, running the next two Saturdays and Sundays.

More than 70 artists will display their works in 61 studios from Alta Sierra, to Penn Valley, to the San Juan Ridge. Truckee artists will exhibit at the Nevada County Arts Council office in Grass Valley.

Art organizations on this year’s tour are Grass Valley Graphics Group, Julie Baker Fine Art, Neighborhood Center of the Arts, Nevada County Arts Council and North Columbia Schoolhouse Cultural Center.

Media represented include painting, pastel, drawing, watercolor, clay, glass, wood, stone, metal, photography, fiber art, printmaking, jewelry and mural painting.

More than half the locations will be open both weekends.

Many of the studio tour artists will be at a free preview reception from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Foothill Flowers’ Upstairs Gallery. Works of all the artists will be up through Oct. 20. During the studio tour, Upstairs Gallery viewing hours will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. Foothill Flowers is at 102 W. Main St., Grass Valley.
