12:40 update: Poll turnout at midday

Turnout at the polls in Nevada County was mixed at midday.

As of 1:30 p.m., county Clerk-Recorder Lorraine Jewett-Burdick said that poll workers reported both light and heavy voting.

“My staff of eight is doing nothing but answering phone calls. I had to switch ears; my ear hurt,” Jewett-Burdick said. “The phones have been ringing since 7:30 a.m.”

Her workday started an hour-and-a-half earlier and will last until 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Then the county clerk-recorder expects to be back in the office seven hours later to answer questions on which candidates and propositions won.
