What a difference 10 years makes. The country was:

– In the black financially.

– Experiencing improving trade balances and exchange rates.

– Paying less than $1.30 per gallon for gasoline.

– Engaged in meaningful cooperation with many countries.

– Not paying exorbitant rates for health care.

– Working with bi-partisan politics despite the Clinton investigations.

– Not overwhelmed with foreign threats and fear-mongering.

Fast-forward to today. This country is now:

– Approaching 10 trillion dollars in debt.

– Seeing the dollar sink to all-time lows against foreign currency.

– Paying $3 per gallon for gasoline.

– Alienating former allies by taking a unilateral approach to foreign affairs.

– Experiencing the cost of health care exceed that of home mortgages.

– Subjected to most Democrats and Republicans totally polarized in their positions.

– In an unending war with an innocent country because our president responded inappropriately to a terrorist attack.

Most of my friends are totally disgruntled with our government and our inability to influence it. Hope for the future is dim. I’d like to say it’s the Republicans’ fault, but it’s really a fault of our system. Vote for no incumbents! Do something!
