Music does a brain good. It’s no secret that music is key in childhood development skills such as intellect, social-emotional, motor and language. That is the underlying foundation of a three-year collaboration between the Nevada County Library and InConcert Sierra, to offer free concerts each week as part of the Summer Reading Program. Musical Mondays returns again at 10 a.m. Monday, June 10.

Musical Mondays is a collaboration between the library and InConcert Sierra to showcase live musical experiences at the Marian E. Gallagher, M.D. Amphitheater, adjacent to the Madelyn Helling Library at the Rood Center. The series features local and regional musicians highlighting a variety of instruments and sound for people of all ages to enjoy. The program is free to the public.

Beaucoup Chapeaux returns to launch the summer series for InConcert and the library. The four musicians – Maggie McKaig, Luke Wilson, Murray Campbell and Randy McKean – bring all kinds of music into play – folk, country, bluegrass, classical, jazz and traditional dance music from many different cultures. Their sound will get you up and have you dancing into the start of summer.

Other acts performing during the seven-week series will be the Sierra Society of Serious Saxophoners, Veridian String Trio, Western Songbirds (featuring McKaig, Sally Ashcraft and Sands Hall), Brass Valley 5, WindJammers and Papa Oom Papa.

Concerts will take place from 10 a.m to 11 a.m. every Monday through July 23. Check calendar listings, InConcert Sierra’s Facebook page or visit http://www.inconcertsierra.org for a complete list of performances. The public is encouraged to bring a chair or blanket.
