University of California Master Gardeners offer free workshop

Home gardeners are invited to two free events presented by UC Master Gardeners of Placer County at their Demonstration Garden in the DeWitt Center, Auburn. Registration is not required.

“Harvesting and Preserving Your Summer Crop” will be presented 9-10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, when participants will learn the basics of harvesting fruits and vegetables, and how to safely preserve them.

The workshop will be held outdoors at the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden, 11477 E Ave. in the DeWitt Center, Auburn (enter via Richardson Drive and Third Street). For information about additional workshops and events, visit the UC Master Gardeners of Placer County website at http://pcmg.ucanr.org/ or call (530) 889-7388.

The Master Gardeners July and August Open Garden Days, set for July 19 and Aug. 23, have been canceled due to high temperatures in the garden.

UC Master Gardeners of Placer County are University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) ambassadors to the Placer County home gardening community. Master Gardeners promote environmental awareness and sustainable landscape practices, and extend research-based gardening and composting information to the public through educational outreach. UCCE is part of the Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) of the University of California.
