What’s as rare as a total solar eclipse, much longer lasting, a little louder and just as satisfying? The Total Blues Eclipse is coming Saturday, July 22, to the Nevada City Odd Fellows Lodge.

Freddie Roulette, legendary blues and steel guitarist pioneer, comes to town paired with the amazing Chicago blues guitarist, Rockin’ Johnny Burgin for two and a half hours of classic Chicago blues.

This blues legend, Roulette, brought the slack key and steel guitar tradition of Hawaii to the blues in Chicago in the early 1960s, paying his dues playing and recording with blues great Earl Hooker (check out “Two Bugs and a Roach”, Arhoolie). Additionally, he toured and recorded with Harvey Mandel and Charlie Musselwhite in the early 1970s.

Check out Roulette on the amazing “Psychedelic Guitar Circus” with Steve Kimock, Henry Kaiser and Harvey Mandel.

Hard workin’ Rockin’ Johnny Burgin has dazzled audiences from Norway to Nevada City. This will be Burgin’s fourth show in the Nevada City area having shared the stage here with the harpmeister, Aki Kumar and West Coast blues guitarist Rusty Zinn. You will hear nuances of Earl Hooker, Muddy Waters, Magic Sam, Howlin Wolf and Burgin’s own unique twist on blues.

Burgin has a new CD out, Neoprene Fedora, and he will lay down several pieces from this new recording. Think guitar noir, classic Chicago blues and a touch of Zydeco, a new tangent of Burgin’s. Check Johnny out at
