WHERE: The Miners Foundry, 325 Spring Street, Nevada City

The Miners Foundry is holding an intimate, café like setting in the Stone Hall, for an evening of new compositions, sufi poetry, and sound waves for grand piano, voice, large gong, didjeridu, and trombone.

Special guest Joe Fajen — tabla and trombone — will join Ludi Hinrichs on several numbers.

“This is a quiet pocket of time between the holidays, we have this space to settle, to reflect a bit, and to pause,” said Hinrichs.

The going in to the heart, the experience of loss and renewal, the returning light of the upcoming winter solstice are some of the themes Hinrichs will thread together in the Stone Hall.

Hors D’ouvres from Java John’s, and beer and wine will be available.

Expect to hear a variety of sounds and cultural sources, including poetry, a trombone piece from Bach, the jazz of Thelonious Monk, North Indian Raga, didjeridu, Balinese gamelan and the healing sounds of the Earth-Sun gong.

“Joe Fajen, long time friend and collaborator, is a joy to work with,” said Hinrichs. “He brings his expertise, enthusiasm and humor to the stage and delights me as a multitalented performer on tabla, trombone, and percussion.”
