Tahoe Top 5: North Lake Massage and Skin Care in Tahoe Vista shares their top five tips for incorporating healthful benefits of essential oils into your daily routine

Aromatherapy is something that can be introduced into a person’s daily routine to offer stress relief and overall feel-good vibes, no matter what life throws their way.

“Scents are very powerful, they can remind us of a memory, which reduces stress and makes us feel good. I love how the essential oils smell and how they make me feel, just using the aromas at different times of day,” said Bethany Lambrecht, esthetician and massage therapist at North Lake Massage and Skin Care.

Lambrecht explained that essential oils are highly concentrated, aromatic plant extracts, which can help aid ailments and invigorate or calm the senses. Oils can be used topically, as a salve or rub, smelled or ingested for healthful benefits.



North Lake Massage and Skin Care carries top-of-the-line doTerra essential oils varying in price, depending on how easily the oil is sourced. Lemon and orange oils can be extracted from their plant bases in abundance, as compared to amber or myrrh oils, making them less expensive than smaller-producing plants.

Each of the oils has its own healthful benefit, and can be used for an array of ailments without fear of side effects, a perk for people new to using essential oils.




“It is natural, so it couldn’t hurt to try and see if it makes you feel better. It’s not like taking a pill with side effects that you’re given by the doctor. I’d invite people to give it a shot without concern,” Lambrecht said.

North Lake Massage and Skin Care’s experts can help find the right essential oils for people and even offer an Aromatouch treatment, which involves applying eight certified pure therapeutic grade essential oils along the spine and the bottom of the feet.

The treatment lasts 30 to 45 minutes and helps reduce stress, enhance the immune system, reduce inflammation and aid in homeostasis, balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system that is responsible for the “fight and flight” response of the body.

Lambrecht shared the Tahoe top five essential oil tips. Here’s a fun fact: the pores on the bottom of a person’s foot and back are the largest on the body; users should apply topical oils to these areas for deep absorption and quick healing effects.

1. Lavender

One of the most popular pure oils, lavender has therapeutic and relaxing effects. Apply to a sunburn, blister, or bug bite for its antihistamine properties, or use in a spray on bed linens to help relax into a deep sleep.

2. Peppermint

Another highly popular oil, peppermint works wonders for headaches. Lambrecht suggests applying it to the neck or as a scalp rub to invigorate the senses. Using certified pure therapeutic-grade peppermint oil safe for consumption in water also helps relieve an upset stomach or nerves.

3. Lemon

Lemon essential oil smells fresh and clean and, not surprisingly, has great antibacterial qualities, making it a great household cleaner. Spritz lemon essential oil in water around the room or on linens as an antimicrobial freshener.

4. Eucalyptus

When feeling congested, eucalyptus is a wonderful natural remedy to open sinuses for instant relief. Apply a few drops to the neck and chest, similar to vapo-rub to invigorate the senses and help ease congested breathing.

5. Blends

doTerra offers several essential oil blends in addition to individual oil extracts, which have been expertly blended for various uses.

Deep Blue oil blend is similar to “icy hot” or “tiger balm” and can be used to soothe strained muscles.

Breathe oil blend is popular to help with asthma or congestion to open the sinuses.
