Prepare for Burning Man with ‘Burning Band’ in Nevada City

In its 46th season, the Nevada County Concert Band presents its second of four Pioneer Park Picnic & Pops concerts with the theme “Burning Band.” From 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Sunday, you can join the fun in celebrating the classic music and art festivals such as Woodstock, Monterey Pops, and the party on the playa that is Burning Man.

In addition, the entire summer series is celebrating the 50th anniversary of 1967’s Summer of Love.

The concert is also the 14th annual “Invitational Concert” where musicians register and join the band for the day. This year, there will be over 150 musicians, dancers, soloists, and artists performing together on stage.

Highlights include Jake and Elwood in “The Blues Brothers Revue,” the three O’s — the sing-along march “Cheerio” and two concert pieces “Festivo” and “Encanto” — and a trip through the ’60s and ’70s with the medleys “The Summer of ‘69” and “The Soulful Sixties.” There will be also salute the fab four with “Beatles Medley,” plus much more.

Despite the theme, there will be no combustibles (the music will be what’s hot).

The Nevada County Concert Band’s family-oriented concerts are always free, accessible, and great for all ages.
