This Friday, veteran folk dance instructor Toba Goddard teaches steps and styling of authentic village dances she has learned recently from visiting native teachers.

Goddard studies dance, singing, and music on trips to Bulgaria, and teaches the culture along with the movements.

Her mini workshop runs from 7 to 8 p.m., in the Fellowship Hall at the rear of Nevada City United Methodist Church, 433 Broad St. At 8 p.m., Village Folk Orkestra starts a concert for both listening and dancing. The band plays and sings, focusing on folk traditions of Eastern Europe, plus side trips to Israel, Turkey, Scandinavia and more.

Nevada County International Dance hosts the event in the Fellowship Hall at street level and around the back of Nevada City United Methodist Church, 433 Broad St.

They accept donations for the band, and they provide snacks and drinks. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
