As part of Sierra Nevada Hospital’s “Laughter is the Best Medicine” series, the Center for the Arts brings speaker/author/entrepreneur Reneé Rongen Thursday, Oct. 17. Rongen takes participants on a side-splitting safari to hunt and capture the elusive universal spirit of Every Woman.
October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and proceeds will go to benefit and support Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital breast cancer screening and treatment programs.
Fundamentally Female is a global collaboration — by, for and about women — that identifies the universal substance of a woman: the friendships she honors, the vulnerability she exposes, the impact she makes, the intimacy she covets, the secrets she keeps. Rich in wit, wisdom and honesty, this collection of candid and diverse voices speaks to generations of females in search of confirmation, inspiration and joy as it peels away the layers to expose the very soul of womanhood. Master storyteller Rongen amasses a feast of quips and quotes, provocative vignettes and tender stories that spans the gamut of the female experience, then wraps it in delicious, eclectic artwork created by artists from around the world.
Rongen is a wise and witty mom, award-winning entrepreneur, author and friend to many. Media have dubbed her “the mother of motivation” and a combination of “Oprah, Lily Tomlin and Mother Teresa.” From board rooms to fifth-grade classrooms to packing convention centers, she is the international speaker who has inspired thousands of individuals to “Live Life From the Inside Out.” Since 1990, she has delivered humorous, powerful, life-changing messages, encouraging her audiences to identify and use their unique gifts to make positive differences to their work, families and communities.
Rongen is the author of the acclaimed Christmas classic “Grandy’s Quilt … A Gift For All Seasons.” “Grandy’s Quilt” is the true heartwarming story of her grandmother’s wish to share an old family heirloom and the gift of a magical friendship found deep in the folds of the old quilt. Her newest work titled “Fundamentally Female” was released in October 2012 and was featured in the Oscar Swag Bags for all female nominees! “Fundamentally Female” is quickly climbing the charts to a female bestseller and has won many regional and national book awards.
Growing up in rural Minnesota and finally finding her way back after living over several oceans and mountains, Rongen was delighted to increase the population to 952 when she made Fertile, Minn., her forever home.
Rongen’s genuine personality is coherent in her self-noted greatest accomplishment and privilege of being wife to Tom and mother to Alexander, Elizabeth and Grace. She makes her home with them year-round on a northern Minnesota lake. She is a keen observer of life and sees every moment as a time to gather material for her keynotes. Her many girlfriends, three children and positively 100 percent Norwegian husband provide her with more than ample laugh-out-loud moments to pass on to her audiences.
In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, all ticket donations made above the minimum donation of $30 per ticket will benefit SNMH’s Women’s Imaging Center for cancer prevention and screening programs. Event tickets to see Rongen include a boxed lunch by Emily’s Catering, for a minimum donation of $30 per ticket. To purchase tickets, call the Center for the Arts in Grass Valley at 530-274-8384 or order online at http:// thecenterforthearts.org.
