The Magic Carpet in Nevada City will host a free presentation and exhibit beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. Certified rug appraiser Paul Jorgensen will speak on “Appraising Oriental Rugs.” His presentation will followed by a tour of a “Best of the World” rug exhibit, featuring antique, tribal and modern examples of Oriental rug weaving.

Many of the rugs are produced through cultural survival projects that The Magic Carpet has supported for the past 15 years.

Understanding what goes into the creation of fine, hand-woven rugs is informative for the curious and vital for the investor or connoisseur, according to The Magic Carpet.

An Oriental rug’s origin, age, condition and the many skills required for its production all contribute to its desirability and collectability.

The Magic Carpet is located at 408 Broad St. in Nevada City, and online at http://thamagiccarpet.biz.
