Café Writers, Clock Tower Records host open mic

The Café Writers and Clock Tower Records continue their open mic platform this weekend with an invitation to writers and musicians. Artists in these two genres have always collaborated, whether it was in ancient Greek tragedy and comedy, Medieval mystery plays in the marketplace, Elizabethan theater, Japanese Noh plays — all the way up to poetry and jazz, rap and rhythm and blues.

American composer Aaron Copeland writes: “I came gradually to see that beyond the music of both arts (poetry and music) there is an essence that joins them—an area where meanings behind the notes and meanings behind the words spring from some common source.”

The next open mic is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday and is free and open to the public. The stage at Clock Tower Records is set with large, abstract paintings by local artist Lil McGill—published poet and teacher of poetry/painting. The event is open to anyone in the community who has original work to read, sing or play.

Clock Tower is located at 130 W. Main St., in downtown Grass Valley. For more information, call 530-477-1400.
