For ballet-lovers, there is nothing like the impeccable classicism and daring performances of the Bolshoi Ballet.

The new season of live performances broadcast from Moscow direct to movie theaters begins this month at Sierra Cinemas. The first production of the season, “The Golden Age,” comes to the big screen at Sierra Cinemas at 1 p.m. Sunday.

A satire of Europe during the Roaring 20s, The Golden Age makes for an original, colorful, and dazzling show with is jazzy score and music-hall atmosphere. This ballet that can only be seen at the Bolshoi has everything: mad rhythms, vigorous chase scenes, and decadent cabaret numbers. With its passionate love story featuring beautiful duets, the Bolshoi dancers plunge into every stylized step and gesture magnificently.



The Bolshoi Theatre of Russia, one of the greatest music and dance stages in the world, was founded in 1776 and to this day remains a spearhead of Russian culture. With more than 250 dancers, the Bolshoi Ballet is one of the largest and most celebrated ballet companies in the world. Its annual repertoire of up to 30 titles per year includes classical masterpieces, rare productions and outstanding works by the most famous contemporary choreographers. Moreover, thanks to its school, the Bolshoi keeps the revered tradition of classical ballet alive through new generations of talented young dancers.

Tickets for “The Golden Age” are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors, and $7 for children 12 and under. Group rates are also available but must be purchased in advance.
