One of the most influential accordionists and vocalists in modern Zydeco music, Jeffery Broussard and his band the Creole Cowboys will perform Sunday in Grass Valley during a concert presented by the Center for the Arts.

In 2009, Broussard received the honor of Best Zydeco Album by OffBeat Magazine in the “Best of the Beat Awards” and in 2007, Broussard received the Zydeco Music & Creole Heritage Awards “Accordionist of the Year.”

An innovator of the genre, Broussard began his career with traditional Creole Zydeco music playing drums in his father’s band, Delton Broussard & The Lawtell Playboys. He then moved on to develop the nouveau Zydeco sound in Zydeco Force.

Broussard plays traditional songs and originals on single-note and triple-note accordion and fiddle.

Whether he is playing a festival stage in front of thousands of dancers, a small theater of seated patrons, giving an interview or teaching a lesson, his warmth, love of music, and talent always shine. Broussard is dedicated to preserving and promoting the Creole culture and traditional Zydeco music.

Tickets to the 8 p.m. Sunday show are $20 for members of the Center, $22 for the general public and are available at the Center’s Box Office in person, by phone at 530-274-8384 ext. 14, online at http://www.thecenterforthearts.org or at BriarPatch Co-op.
