Art Works Gallery is partnering with South Yuba River Citizens League to showcase youth art.

SYRCL recently hosted a contest inviting young artists to submit work with the theme “I love the Yuba.”

The categories were: photography, mixed media art, poetry, song-writing and essay-writing or storytelling.

Entries were judged in age groups K-4, 5-8 and 9-12.

First place prizes for the “Youth for the Yuba” contest included SYRCL gear, a personalized autographed book by Julia Butterfly Hill and a chance to have one’s art seen and heard in the community.

The art winners will be displayed in the windows at Art Works Gallery, 113 Mill St., Grass Valley until May 31.
