A medley of young musicians will play and sing in recital on Saturday afternoon at the Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains in Grass Valley.

The program features talented students, ages 12-17, performing polished pieces on a range of instruments including piano, violin, cello, harp, trumpet and voice, as well as vibraphone and marimba.

The Sierra Student Showcase is presented by Sierra Community Music, a brand new organization devoted to music education and enrichment. The recital is the group’s first public offering, and was designed to give well-practiced students a chance to perform in a friendly, non-competitive environment.

Performing in front of a supportive audience will help students hone their skills and boost their confidence, thereby enhancing their musical lives. With this in mind, Sierra Community Music plans to hold similar recitals in the fall and winter, keeping the cycle going year-round.

There will be music on the program by the likes of Beethoven and Chopin, along with a variety of other composers equally engaging. With over a dozen young musicians performing, the recital promises to be a treat for both the ears and the spirit. A reception will follow the program with ample refreshments for all.
