Village Folk Orchestra plays 8 p.m. Friday in Nevada City

Colfax folk fiddler Lonna Whipple plays Oct. 16 with Village Folk Orchestra for listening and dancing in Nevada City.

The show is in the Fellowship Hall, level with Broad Street at the rear of Nevada City United Methodist Church, 433 Broad St.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; music starts at 8 p.m. From 7 to 8 p.m., local dancers will teach a few party and wedding dances.



Whipple plays both standard violin and the gaidulka, or Balkan folk fiddle.

The band performs tunes from all over, specializing in dance music from Eastern Europe, on a mix of familiar and exotic instruments, plus vocals.




A voluntary donation will be asked. Information is available at 530-272-4650.
