The Lynx to hit the stage in Grass Valley

Billy Packard on mandolin and Alexis Alrich on piano are The Lynx, set to appear Friday at Tofanelli's in Grass Valley.

The Lynx is beginning its new season at Tofanelli’s Bistro in Grass Valley from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, according to a release.

The Lynx is an instrumental duo — Billy Packard on mandolin and Alexis Alrich on piano. They play sparkling music from the USA, Italy, Spain, France, Brazil, Mexico and more.

Featuring sophisticated waltzes, polkas, tarantellas and tangos, bossa, choro and swing from the 1800’s to the present, their arrangements shine with a modern California twist.

The Lynx also now includes many original compositions that pay respect to tradition while being modern and inventive.

With Alrich’s classical background and Packard’s roots background, the music ranges from classic to Latin to jazzy. Sometimes their music is smooth, sometimes it’s fast and syncopated and the fingers will be flying.
