The Center for the Arts will present the 13th annual STARZ Dance Showcase. This extravaganza features dozens of dancers including dance schools, amateur and professional performers, Friday (April 10) and Saturday (April 11).

“It is amazing the variety of dance we have in our county,” said Event producer Marni Marshall. “Adults and children will be performing their hearts out to their friends, family and community. We hope that it will inspire some to love dance or even take dance lessons.”

This year’s extravaganza includes hula, aerial, swing, jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern, Indian and competition style dance.

New this year are the Kathak Indian dancers, award winners Anderson’s Step It Up competitive dance team and Avital Miller Dance Into Divinity.

Miller has a professional background in dance and has created spiritual dance performances, as well as movement programs. Avital received a Dance Major at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, and studied Dance Movement Therapy. She has performed various styles of dance around the world, and now uses those skills to help people connect, according to her bio.

“While I am careful to express spiritual principles so that they are clear and easy to understand, what is most important to me is that people feel a touch of love in their hearts, joy in their spirits, or peace in their minds,” Miller said.

The Starz Show gives the regional dance community a chance to hone their craft and showcase current work. The STARZ show is a fundraiser for The Center with income helping maintain and improve their 21,000 square foot facility in downtown Grass Valley.

Participating dance groups include:

Kickin’ and Swingin’

Sierra Dance Institute

In Sync Dance

Center Stage Dance Studio

Anderson’s Step It Up Dance Studio

Nevada Union Theatrical Dance

Nevada City Ballet Academy

Avital Miller — The Dance Into Divinity

In all, there are three performances this weekend, at 7 p.m. Friday, and at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets for the performances are $17 for adults, $14 for students 6-18 and free for those 5 and under, but a ticket is required. Tickets are available at the Center’s Box Office in person, by phone at 530-274-8384 ext. 14, online at or at BriarPatch Co-op.
