Starwatch party Oct. 7 at Bridgeport

A “Bridgeport Star Party” will be held from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at South Yuba River State Historic Park, north parking lot.

The free event is being hosted by Nevada County Astronomy Club, which will have telescopes on hand, the South Yuba River Parks Association and California State Parks.

Viewing highlights are expected to include Saturn and Andromeda Galaxy.

The public is urged to bring warm clothes, a chair, snacks, water and a cellphone with the “Night Sky” app.

Please do not bring alcohol or glass containers; red light flashlights only within the telescope arena.

Attendees may call 530-432-2546 the night prior to the event for potential cloudy sky cancellation notice.

The park is at 17660 Pleasant Valley Road, Penn Valley.
