Student, practitioner and teacher of Kundalini Yoga, Simrit Kaur will bring her healing music to Grass Valley during a CD release concert presented by The Center for the Arts Discovery Series 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 at The Center for the Arts, 314 W Main St., Grass Valley.

Kundalini Yoga/Naad Yoga is the science of sound and consciousness. Simrit Kaur records, composes and produces music, tours with her band, and teaches workshops worldwide.

She is joined by Gordon Hellegers on kora, MJ Greenmountain and Tripp Dudley on percussion and Ezra Landis on guitars.

Her new self-titled album rose to number two on the world music charts. Simrit’s timeless music brings sacred and ancient sounds to the modern world brimming with inspiration and love. Simrit’s music has been described as “healing,” “hypnotic,” “mystical,” and “majestic.”

Born to a Greek singer in Athens, Greece, Simrit was adopted by another Greek family in the United States and raised in South Carolina when she was 1 year old.

From a young age, Simrit studied mystical Byzantine music and was influenced by Greek classical and folk music. She grew up listening to Singh Kaur, Led Zeppelin, Mazzy Star, Bob Marley, Jeff Buckley, Loreena McKennitt and the devotional music of India and Africa.

Simrit grew up with an adopted brother with special needs and no blood relatives. With her unique upbringing, she learned at an early age the importance of connecting with people through her heart and soul.

She found her voice when she realized she could touch people in deep ways through music.

She has released three self-funded albums on her independent record label, Simrit Kaur Music.

Two records have hit the iTunes Top World Charts, including her newest album that reached the No. 2 spot.

Simrit is currently working on her fourth album, due for release in the summer of 2015. She tours the globe and has played throughout the U.S., Mexico, Canada and China.
