Reception Saturday for Sorenson retropective exhibit

The Center for the Arts in Grass Valley is hosting a Retrospective Exhibition of the work of the late Robert H. Sorenson. It opened Sept. 9 and continues through Sept. 27. There will be a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Incubated in the vibrant blend of art, music and poetry of the Beats that made up the San Francisco art scene of the ‘50s, Sorenson’s work was motivated not by the outside world, but by inner forces. Schooled in the disciplines of Mathematics, Engineering Physics and Psychology as well as Fine Arts, Sorenson saw painting as a forum for dialogue between art and science, between image and viewer, as a pathway to exploration of the nature of consciousness and the transformation of of one¹s own

awarenesses.

The exhibit will feature works from all phases of Sorenson’s metamorphose, from the colorful structures of his early work, through dynamic hard edge landscapes, brilliantly colored organic images and back again to the moving and striking simplicity of geometric forms.
