Organ concert set Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church

Organist John Cannon will give a concert at 3 p.m. Oct. 24 at Grace Lutheran Church, 1979 Ridge Road, Grass Valley.

Cannon will perform on Grace’s Bigelow Opus 21 Pipe Organ and his theme will be the Reformation as he plays various pieces by Bach, Brahms and others.

The organ was built by Michael Bigelow of American Fork, Utah. The organ took two years to build, and almost one month to install at the church.

Cannon began his keyboard career as a child. Finding his passion and skill at organ and piano, he won the junior and senior prize in music at Chaffee Preparatory School in Connecticut.

In his senior year, Canon traveled to Fort Collins, Col. for a senior project, where he composed a hymn. It was in Fort Collins he was introduced to Colorado State University.

His career went on from there.

From 2007 to the present, Cannon has served as Organist/Choirmaster at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. He has traveled throughout the U.S. giving concerts at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC, the National Cathedral in D.C., and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Angeles in L.A.

Saturday’s concert is open to all. For more information or questions, please call the church office, 530-273-7043.
