The Artists’ Studio in the Foothills will celebrate its sixth anniversary from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. today with an Open House event and special demonstrations.
The annual event will feature studio and classroom demonstrations and presentations throughout the day, and a gallery show representing more than 70 students and teachers, according to ASiF.
This event highlights the 4,000 square foot centers’ programs and offers a sampling of upcoming classes, workshops and mentoring opportunities for students of all ages. The Open House is a family friendly experience, so bring the kids and come ready to tap into your creative spirit, said owner, director Amanda Paoletti.
These seasonal open house events invite the public to come meet the artists and experience the huge talent and individual artistry of ASiF Resident Artists.
In addition to offering opportunities to the community at large for creating personalized relationships with the artists, these events aim to grow public awareness of the huge range of course offerings, from traditional to experimental media, and the fine art instruction offered at the center.
Attendees will also get the chance to venture into the creative spaces of more than 25 resident artists. Visit all three of the center’s community classrooms and the private and shared studio spaces of Yvonne Bartlett, Rebecca Bleau, Eileen Blodgett, Deborah Bridges, Odette Brush, Roseanne Burke, Sheila Butchko, Cathy Diamond, Elizabeth Achuche, Claudia Jeffers, Cheri Guerrette, Rebecka Gilbert, Barbara Harris, Sally Herring, Betsy Hufnagel, Claudia Jeffers, Jill Mahanna, Susan Michalski, Sandra Miller, Vicki Parker, Jean Patterson, Lin Schiffner, Denise Wey and Kathryn Wronski.
ASiF opened its doors in 2008 with the mission of creating a visual arts center to support and promote the visual artists of Nevada County.
Over a period of years since the center opened, many students at ASiF have taken a new approach to art instruction — seeking more of a “mentorship” in a classroom setting, working closely with one or more of the instructors on an ongoing basis. ASiF’s special brand of mentoring has proven to be a wonderfully successful mutual support system for the center and its resident instructors, Paoletti said.
“The mentoring of students that’s happening here brings an inspiring and vital creative spirit to ASiF … it’s like a mini version of the synergy shared by resident artists with studio spaces here… each of the artists support each other in so many ways. … it’s a very intimate artists’ community, and while each of the resident artists seek visibility and exposure, the greater community is made to feel welcome here through its personalized offerings and public outreach.”
