Like any nonprofit, the KARE (“Kid’s Assistance and Respite in Emergencies”) Nursery depends on donations, grants, and of course, fundraisers to balance its budget. KARE also believes in keeping the “fun” in fundraising, hence the upcoming Jambalaya & Jazz event which is designed to be an evening of good food, good music and good conversation.
Jambalaya & Jazz will be held at the Foothills Event Center on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Guests will be entertained by the Nevada Union High School Jazz octet, as well as the Doug Pauly Jazz Trio with their knock out vocalist, Meleva Steiert. The menu includes jamabalaya, red beans and rice, Cajun salad, jalapeno cheddar corn bread, and Key lime pie and bread pudding with bourbon-cream sauce for dessert.
Silent and live auction items are listed on the Kid’s Assistance and Respite in Emergencies website (karecrisisnursery.org).
The KARE Crisis Nursery is a place that has changed people’s lives. About to enter its 14th year of operation, the Nursery continues its mission to “help prevent child abuse, one child at a time.” It does this by opening its doors to provide day and respite care services to families with young children who need a helping hand when they don’t have other resources.

Child development research verifies that children who can remain in their homes with a nurturing environment during their first four to five years are much more successful at maneuvering later obstacles in life than those who live in less secure environments. The Nursery aims to help struggling families to provide this.
All are welcome. Tickets are available at Eventbrite.com, The Book Seller, Nevada City SPD, or by calling Kid’s Assistance and Respite in Emergencies at 530-265-0693.
