Nevada City Winery hosts reception for May artist of the month

Nevada City Winery’s May artist, Jill Mahanna, is a fine art oil painter.

She has been painting the landscape of the Sierra foothills for 25 years. Her show “Spring!” will be on exhibit through the month of May, closing June 2. There will be an opening reception from 5-7 p.m. Friday.

This spring has been especially inspirational to her.

“Spring is here,” Mahanna said. “I am particularly glad to see it this year, and my new paintings reflect how inspired I feel by the landscape of these Sierra foothills. After all the lovely rain, the growth and vibrancy happening in the natural world is heartening.”

She immerses herself in that landscape, traversing the meadows and heading up the hills, to create paintings that are uplifting and bursting with color.

Mahanna came to the foothills in 1992, working as a graphic designer. She is a resident artist at the ASiF Visual Arts Center in Grass Valley. Currently she has dual full-time jobs parenting and painting.

“… I am grateful and fulfilled.”
