Nevada City Winery earns gold medal

John Chase, general manager of the Nevada City Winery, has announced their first gold medal of the award season.

The 2012 Petite Sirah, Crose Vineyards, El Dorado County, was awarded Gold, Best of Class, and Best of Nevada County at the recent North of the Gate Wine Competition in Petaluma.

Winemaker Mark Foster describes the wine as having aromas of blackberry, plum and black pepper spice. The flavors are rich in red cherry and plum fruit. There is a long fruity finish with a nice balance of tannin to remind you that you are drinking a Petite Sirah. There were 373 cases produced and retails for $26.

Also garnering awards at the competition were the 2013 Solaire, Silver; and 2013 Dolcetto, Boa Vista Vineyards, Bronze.
