Master Gardeners to host free native grass workshop June 8

Do you want to learn how to grow native grasses that blow gently in the wind while conserving water, controlling soil erosion and attracting bees and butterflies?

Join the Master Gardeners at a free workshop from 10 a.m. to noon, June 8, at its Demonstration Garden.

The garden is located on the NID Business Center grounds at 1036 W. Main Street, Grass Valley. Visitors can:

— Discover the keys to establishing native grasses.

— Learn how to ID native and non-native grasses.

— Uncover how native grasses promote a diversity of beneficial insects and pollinators.

— Delve into how native grasses can be used in erosion control.

— Learn nutrient values of native grasses for grazing.

— Explore the uses of native grasses in the ornamental landscape.

You may bring samples of grasses for identification. If you do, bring the entire plant — roots, stems and leaves. Native California grasses will also be for sale at the workshop.
