Long distance hikers to meet in Nevada City

A national hiking group will hold their annual meeting in Nevada County this fall.

The American Long Distance Hiking Association West (ALDHA-West). will meet Sept. 30 to Oct. 2 at Camp Augsusta in Nevada City.

“We’d love to get the word out to locals who may be interested in attending,” said Kate Hoch, secretary of the Group. “Our annual gathering event brings together people who are passionate about hiking for fellowship, education and inspiration.”

This year’s keynote speakers and topics include:

Justin “Trauma” Lichter and Shawn “Pepper” Forry on the Great Himalaya Trail;

Mary “Fireweed” Kwart on the Bigfoot Trail;

Aria Zoner on The Hot Springs Trail;

Clay Jacobson and Kelly Bussard on the Idaho Centennial Trail.

The festivities include a special dinner and presentation of this year’s Triple Crown Awards, which recognize hikers who have completed the entire lengths of the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail and Continental Divide Trail.

Other activities include a screening of the film “Trail Magic, The Grandma Gatewood Story,” a gear raffle, games and annual membership meeting.
