"Tigers Nest" photo by Rick Murai

Join Viewpoint Photographic and noted Penn Valley photographer and educator Rick Murai, on an inspirational journey to Bhutan — one of the world’s little known treasures where tourism is limited and the quality of life is measured in terms of gross national happiness.

Participants of The Sacred Festivals of Bhutan, Sept. 14-24, will witness two contrasting festivals and document Bhutan’s remote culture, stunning landscapes, ancient monasteries and its warm and welcoming people. Designed for photographers of all proficiency levels, this custom-crafted and totally immersive photography workshop will ensure ample time to create an intimate and independent interpretation of this tiny Himalayan kingdom, the Land of the Thunder Dragon, Bhutan.

Murai will share his acclaimed images from Bhutan and discuss the itinerary and highlights of The Sacred Festivals of Bhutan at 7 p.m. Friday at Viewpoint Gallery, 2015 J St. Sacramento.

With travel to more than 30 countries, Murai’s photographs have been widely exhibited and collected, have appeared in print and online publications worldwide and garnered 2008, 2010 and 2011 Travel Photographer of the Year awards (UK) and the Jurors Award, 2010, California State Fair. Selections from his Bhutan portfolio were featured in Lenswork, March, 2012, and exhibited at the Royal Geographic Society, London. http://richardmurai.com
