Local artists earn recognition at KVIE Art Auction
Celebrating KVIE Public Television’s 33 years of creating an accessible venue to bring art into the homes of Northern Californians, the 2014 KVIE Art Auction will showcase more than 250 works of art by emerging, well-known and world-renown Northern California artists. KVIE’s art curator, D Neath, has announced that seven artists from Grass Valley and Nevada City who submitted their art to the annual juried competition were chosen to be included in KVIE’s Art Auction collection. Five of the seven were recognized with juror and curator awards.
The five pieces recognized with awards were, from Grass Valley: Sandy Lindblad’s “Hi There!” curator award (airs approx. 8:30 p.m. Sept. 20); Jack Richardson’s “Stone Bowl” curator award (airs approx. 5:30 p.m. Sept. 21); and from Nevada City: Miriam Morris’ “Orange Striped Cat” juror award, sculpture category (airs approx. 9:30 p.m. Sept. 20); Ron Breeden’s “Ghost of a Dog” juror award, figurative category (airs approx. 8 p.m. Sept. 20); and Roseanne Burke’s “Night Moves” juror award, still life and figurative category (airs approx. 5:30 p.m. Sept. 20).
Each artist’s work will be showcased in a live three-day auction broadcast on KVIE (ch. 6, check local listings) that starts Sept. 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. and continues Sept. 20 and Sept. 21, from noon to 10 p.m.
“The 2014 KVIE Art Auction promises to be an exciting 3 days—with additions of ‘The Investment Hour’ as well as new art experts to help the collector navigate through more than 250 pieces of original art,” said Neath. “Viewers will have the opportunity to add to an art collection and to discover and learn about this area’s best-known and up-and-coming artists and galleries.”
A complete list of artists juried into the collection is online at kvie.org/artauction. Images and information on every piece of art up-for-bid (including air dates and times) will launch in September. An Awards Ceremony to announce the Best of Show and first place in each category will be hosted during the Preview Gala from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday. This event is sold out, but those interested may sign up on the waitlist at kvie.org/artauction.
