Leftover Cuties to perform Saturday

Leftover Cuties will bring their timeless jazz-tinged sound, sultry vocals and seasoned musicianship to Grass Valley audiences Saturday during a performance presented by The Center for the Arts.

Leftover Cuties’ first album, “Places to Go” produced by Tony Berg (Bob Dylan, Michael Penn, Jesca Hoop) won raves from critics. Their atmospheric live performances are known to draw crowds in the clubs and cabarets of their hometown Los Angeles and the world over.

The band’s first song, written on a napkin in five minutes, became the theme for the Showtime series“The Big C,” starring Laura Linney.

Leftover Cuties is Shirli McAllen (lead vocals, ukulele), Austin Nicholsen (bass, vocals), Mike Bolger (brass, keys, accordion, vocals) and Stuart Johnson (drums, percussion, vocals).

“It’s high energy. We have our sound. With my vocals and the particular instruments we are using, we sound like the Leftover Cuties. Almost nothing we do is intentional in the sense that we don’t try to force anything, we don’t try to limit. Basically the songs come,” McAllen said.

Tickets for the 8 p.m. Saturday show are $12 for members of the Center, $15 for non-members and are available at BriarPatch Co-op and the Center’s Box Office, by phone at 530-274-8384 ext. 14 or at http://www.thecenterfor thearts.org.
