LeeAnn Brook Show Opens with New Paintings, New Book
How can a lifelong career in art make a difference? This is the question that was on the mind of Nevada City fine artist LeeAnn Brook over two years ago. With nearly 40 years in the field of graphic design, photography and fine art, Brook felt a strong desire to utilize her skills in a form that could not only leave a legacy, but also offer a vision. The result is her new book called “Points of Inspiration: An Artist’s Journey With Painting and Photography,” which will be featured at a show at Nevada City Winery opening on August 1st. Brook’s newest collage paintings will also be in the show, including several that are highlighted in the book.
Brook will be taking orders for the book, offering signed, limited editions at a discounted pre-sale price at her opening on Nevada City’s First Friday Artwalk at the Nevada City Winery on August 1st, from 4 to 6 p.m. She will also be on hand to show preliminary galley proofs of the ambitious project, with the printed book available by December 1st. The pre-sale offer will be available through November 15.
With a foreword by award-winning poet Molly Fisk, the full color, hardcover, 96 page book will be commercially printed and distributed worldwide. Brook’s love for the landscape is demonstrated with her paintings and photography throughout the book. Accompanied by her personal story of how one medium has inspired another, the book offers glimpses into her studio and process as well as her personal vision.
“I’m passionate about my community and my art, and believe that creating awareness of our natural world through the form of art not only helps connect us in a deeper way, but also opens our eyes, inspiring action for preservation” reflects Brook.
LeeAnn Brook majored in fine art and graphic design at a small art school on the East coast, and migrated from Connecticut to Boston to California working as an art director in ad agencies, and later starting her own design studio in the Bay Area in 1976. Her background in book design with clients such as U. C. Press, Berkeley, and Holden Day Books positioned her well to act both as designer and publisher for the book. She has been a painter since kindergarten, a photographer since high school, a contemporary fine artist since college and a graphic designer in her own business in Nevada City since 1977. She is also a three-time winner for her paintings in the California State Fair, in addition to receiving numerous other awards in fine art.
Running from August 1 – 31, the show will be at Nevada City Winery, 321 Spring St. in Nevada City which is open seven days a week, 12 to 5 p.m. Her opening will be on August 1st from 4 to 6 p.m. For more information on her work, visit http://www.leeannbrookfineart.com or contact her at 265-6817.
