Everyone Orchestra will bring its improvisational jam band experience to Grass Valley Friday during a performance presented by the Center for the Arts.

Conducted by founder Matt Butler, Everyone Orchestra features: Joel Cummins (Umphrey’s McGee), Kris Myers (Umphrey’s McGee), Jamie Kime (Zappa Plays Zappa), Ben Thomas (Zappa Plays Zappa), Kai Eckhardt (John McLaughlin Trio / Garaj Mahal).

The Everyone Orchestra has taken its participants on improvisational journeys, both on stage and off, with diverse national and international lineups at festivals, theaters and philanthropic events.

Hundreds of musicians, dancers, singers, guest conductors and community organizations have embraced the experience of the high energy band with a mood set by Butler who conducts the musicians using hand signs, whiteboard and assorted mime suggestions.

The list of rotating Everyone Orchestra participants is an increasingly wide and intercontinental group including members of: The Grateful Dead, Phish, Moe., String Cheese Incident, The Flecktones, Club d’Elf, ALO, Tea Leaf Green and Adrian Belew, Taj Mahal and Maria Muldaur.

In addition, a growing legion of other performers numbering in the hundreds have included: Tuvan throat singers, live painters, dancers, chanters, choirs, hula hoopers, firespinners, jugglers, stiltwalkers, storytellers and even a presidential candidate.

This unique collaborative experiment encourages and requires audience interaction and each show is always entirely improvised.

“The experience of playing with different musicians, improvising every night, and getting the crowd involved in ways that they can’t be at a regular show has provided an unparalleled live music experience,” said Butler.

Tickets to the 8 p.m. dance concert are $27 for members of the Center, $32 for the general public and are available at the Center’s Box Office in person, by phone at 530-274-8384 ext. 14, online at http://www.thecenterforthearts.org or at BriarPatch Co-op.
