Humperheads to play at Old 5Mile House

Buck Love and the Humperheads will perform at the Old 5Mile House from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday.

With four lead singers, three guitars, bass and plenty of percussion, the band’s music is a melting pot of R&B, soul, funk, southern rock and reggae, folk, jazz, world beat and jam band party music. Twenty-six years of such fusion has brought these different musical universes into alignment with each other like some weird and crazy musical solar system.

While their kinetic and intoxicating energy with classic songs is stunning, their original compositions and lengthy improvisational jams are even better. The band is composed of five of Nevada County’s most accomplished musicians, each with their separate musical careers: Mikail Graham, Paul Kamm, Tom MacDonald, Bill Smart and Mark Yedinak. They made their first appearance as a band July 4, 1986, and have played together ever since at clubs, festivals, benefits and parties around Northern California.
