‘Gasland II’ to screen Friday

At this week’ Fourth Friday Film Forum which shows “Gasland II,” Josh Fox’s premiere film on oil and gas extraction, Michael Thornton of the Sierra Club of California will be the featured speaker.

Thornton has worked with Sierra Club since 2013 as an organizer for the California Coast Campaign focusing on on-the-ground organizing to educate about and push for protecting California’s coastal communities from the effects of oil and gas exploration, and for creating a National Marine Sanctuary along California’s Central Coast, as well as a variety of other issues of regional significance.

Thornton’s multifaceted background includes directing a regional AmeriCorps program, he has also worked at KVMR as a radio newsroom director and reporter, and he has managed a variety of social justice and equity activities.

“Gasland II” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday the at Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains, 246 S. Church Street, Grass Valley. There is a suggested Donation of $5 – $10 (no one turned away for lack of funds). All proceeds shared with UUCM and the Peace and Justice Center of Nevada County.
