Fulks to perform at Grass Valley house concert

Americana/country singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks will make a rare Northern California appearance at an intimate house concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, in Grass Valley.

On his trips West, Fulks usually confines his lively, entertaining shows to bigger venues such as the Palms in Winters.

In Grass Valley, he’ll be joined by two stellar sidemen: guitarist Robbie Gjersoe and multi-instrumentalist Chris Scruggs, grandson of Earl.

Reservations, which are required, can be made by calling 530-272-6498 or emailing joyceling@sbcglobal.net.

The suggested ticket price is $20, and all proceeds go to the musicians. While Fulks has an encyclopedic knowledge of traditional country music, he is also acknowledged as an innovative artist who has consistently challenged the country mainstream, frequently in wickedly hilarious style.

Fulks, who lives in the Chicago area, is touring the country in support of his new bluegrass- and old-time-flavored CD, “Gone Away Backward,” which hit the Top 20 on the Americana music charts and has received rapturous reviews.
