Are you ready to reignite your passion for composting? Do you love compost but can’t seem to get your pile cooking? Are you looking for more resourceful ways to compost without breaking your back or spending a fortune on bins? Do you have an inventive, playful and creative spirit?

Nevada County Master Gardeners will present a free workshop, “Creative Composting: Get the Best Results for the Least Effort,” from 10 a.m. to noon Feb. 23. This two-hour training will be held in the NID Annex building, 1036 W. Main St., Grass Valley.

A team of three Master Gardeners will cover the concepts you need to produce the highest quality home compost for the least amount of effort. They will give ideas for how to use compost strategically and creatively.

The workshop will allow plenty of time for questions and discussion. Participants will examine and take the temperature of a one-week-old hot compost pile in the Master Gardener Demonstration Garden (behind the NID Annex building).

The workshop will also include a sneak preview of “Totally Tomatoes — from Seed to Seed.” That workshop will be held on the following week, from 10 a.m. to noon March 2 at the same location.

“The Western Nevada County Gardening Guide,” written and published by the Nevada County Master Gardeners, will be on sale before and after the presentation.
