Exhibit, blog launch bring artist’s convictions to life

A new exhibit featuring the work of local artist Dixie Procopio will be on display at Ben Franklin in Grass Valley through the month of June. There will be an artist reception for Procopio from 1 to 3 p.m. June 15 in the store’s Craft Room.

Procopio got her start in art 15 years ago when she took a class “just for fun.” She has worked with E.J. Gold, Sandra Miller from Sierra College and her mentors, Lil Magill and Jim Stettler.

Her exhibit coincides with the launch of Procopio’s blog and new book, “Diving Deep.” The book was inspired after she experienced difficult times with life and health, Procopio said.

Both the book and her art are a reflection of the message she said she feels strongly about — stopping the silence of bullying in any form, including domestic violence.

To support this conviction, a percentage of all her work is donated to all the local domestic violence and sexual assault shelters in Grass Valley and Nevada City, as well as to Hospitality House.

For information about Procopio, or to share a story, visit her blog at http://divingdeep1att.net. Her artwork will be on display in the Craft Room at Ben Franklin during the month of June.
