Eeotourism expo set for Labor Day weekend

With multiple lakes and mountains, Tahoe provides everyone with something to do. This Labor Day Weekend, Sustainable Tahoe will host a two-day Tahoe Geotourism Expo.

Sustainable Tahoe is a nonprofit organization run by volunteers whose goal is to promote the amazing features Tahoe has to offer.

Now having developed a strong partnership with the Washoe Tribe, the First People of Tahoe, they have worked together to form a two-day event for everyone on Aug. 30 and 31.

Having put together a diverse suite of “Geo-Tracks” to educate, excite and enlighten people, there will be opportunities for kayaking, hiking, bicycling and stand-up paddleboard yoga, as well as engaging your mind with history, science and sustainability of the area.

Sacred to the Washoe Tribe is the 8 Worlds of Tahoe which includes land, water, sky, spirit, plants, wildlife, culture, community and heritage.

The expo will present the opportunity for everyone to become stewards of the lake by choosing actions that sustain or enhance all 8 Worlds.

In addition, the Washoe Tribe will also be hosting a LukaLeLup, a community gathering, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 30 at Sand Harbor which will provide food, drinks, local arts and crafts, heritage demonstrations, as well as live entertainment on the Shakespeare Stage.

Reservations are required in advance for most “Geo-Tracks” activities, and prices range anywhere from free to $65.
