Dark Star Orchestra brings Grateful Dead experience to town Wednesday

Wednesday, Dark Star Orchestra continues the Grateful Dead concert experience with a Miners Foundry Cultural Center concert in Nevada City. This is one of only two Dark Star Orchestra shows in Northern California as part of their current tour.

More than a tribute band, Dark Star Orchestra shows are based upon the extensive catalog of the Grateful Dead. The Chicago-based band has played more than 2,200 shows in 15 years. That is only a hundred or so shy of the number that the Grateful Dead played over their four decades as a band. They present the complete original set list, song by song, and in order, while adapting their phrasing, voice arrangements, and specific musical equipment for the various eras of the Grateful Dead shows in which they perform. At the end of every performance, the band announces the date and venue where the original show just covered took place.

Dark Star Orchestra has said they never play the same set twice. Wednesday’s show begins at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. There are $35 VIP tickets, which include cabaret table seating as well. They are available at BriarPatch Co-op, by calling 530-265-5040, or online at http://www.nevadacityboxoffice.org.
