Junior Brown will bring his unique voice, songwriting craft, and double-necked “Guit-Steel” to Grass Valley Saturday.

Junior Brown has three Grammy Award nominations, won Music Video of the Year from Country Music Association (CMA) and a Bluegrass Music Association Award (IBMA) with legend Ralph Stanley. He has appeared on recordings and videos with Hank Thompson, George Jones, The Beach Boys and Stone Temple Pilots.

Born in l952 in Cottonwood, Arizona, Brown showed musical talent at an early age playing little melodies on the family piano before he could talk. Curiosity led him to an old guitar in his grandparents’ attic, setting the stage for a lifelong interest in the steel strings.

Brown hit the country music dance club circuit full time when he was just a teen, followed by decades of touring across the U.S. and abroad. After settling in Austin, Texas, with his wife and rhythm guitarist-singer, Tanya Rae, Brown began his weekly tenure at the legendary Continental Club. There the band successfully honed their craft and ultimately signed with major label, Curb.

Brown’s songs have appeared in film: “Me, Myself and Irene,” “Trespass,” “Still Breathing,” “The Dukes of Hazard” and “Blue Collar Comedy Tour I and II.” His music is regularly on television: “X Files,” “Chris Issac,” “Austin City Limits” including multiple appearances on: Letterman, Conan, Saturday Night Live, and a cameo in Sponge Bob Squarepants. Additionally, Junior Brown’s music is heard in national ad campaigns, for companies like: The Gap, Lee Jeans and Lipton Tea.

Tickets are $30 for members of the Center for the Arts, $34 for the general public and are available at the Center’s Box Office in person, by phone at 530-274-8384 ext. 14, online at http://www.thecenterforthearts.org or at BriarPatch Co-op.
