Gregory said the live music will begin at 11 a.m. Cool Heat plays a mixture of danceable smooth jazz and light jazz covers, and some original tunes.
In addition to the music, there will be barbecue tastings, a car show, disc golf, a local backyard BBQ contest, food and specialty vendors, beer and wine and a kid’s area with a bounce house.
Also, a new Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned competition will be included this year. This new attraction will bring talented cooks from all over the Western United States to Nevada County to compete for a California State Championship title as well as $5,000 in prize money.
This year, United Way will also host the inaugural Derek Sorensen Memorial Disc Golf Tournament, organized by the Gold Country Disc Golf Association. This tournament will be held in the memory of Derek Sorensen, the son of Debbie Evans, a dedicated United Way supporter.
Disc golf is an exciting cousin of traditional golf where players use a flying disc. To learn more about the sport or sign up to play, see the Gold Country Disc Golf Association Web site at goldcountrydga.com
At Saturday’s event, community members will have the chance to try championship level barbeque, vote for the top Backyard BBQ and vote for their favorite car.
All the proceeds from this event will go to the United Way of Nevada County Community Impact Fund which helps the community with the most basic needs including food, emergency shelter and access to health care.
