Community shines Wednesday at Golden Road Radio Hour

The newly formed, locally based Golden Road Radio Hour will offer a live show from 7 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug.24, at the Nevada Theatre, 401 Broad St., Nevada City.

The show will also air live on KVMR-89.5 FM radio from 8 to 10 p.m. Wedneday.

Earlier this month, the inaugural live event drew a host of community performers, including The Rayos and many other local bands.

Admission to the live shows is $20, with a portion of the proceeds going to Hospitality House. Tickets are available at the door and at the website.

Michael DiMartino, the founder and executive producer of the Golden Road Radio Hour. comparied it to the Prairie Home Companion or Ted Talks with a “Gold Country flavor.”

In the show, music is intertwined with dialogue among members of the production team and talent during the Red Eye broadcast from midnight to 4 a.m.

The show is a collaboration between dozens of different organizations and individuals committed to exploring the intersection of the arts, environment, health, peace and justice and science and technology.

DiMartino said he is also organizing A Drums Around the World, worldwide drumming circle, event 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday in Pioneer Park, Nevada City, and a Global Rhytms World Music Dance Party 6 p.m. Sunday at Odd Fellows Hall, 223 Broad St., Nevada City (see story on Page 2 in this issue.)
