Saturday will be an event-filled day at Art Works Gallery in downtown Grass Valley, according to a release.

The gallery will be celebrating its ninth anniversary by having a party with tea and refreshments, demonstrations by artists and a fundraiser for an art scholarship.

From 1-4 p.m. will be an elegant tea at the gallery with scones and biscuits, finger sandwiches and savories in honor of Mother’s Day. Also during those hours, two of the gallery artists will be giving demonstrations.

Photographer Gail Lipson will show examples of photographic prints on metal versus paper, showing their different effects and qualities. Water images look especially vibrant printed on metal, while flowers and photographs with fall colors show more color variations printed with carbon pigments on high grade paper.

Silk artist Kris Johnson will demonstrate creating handcrafted textiles using sharpies, inks and assorted materials. Visitors are invited to explore this media along with her.

As a remembrance of one of the founding members of the gallery, money is being raised for the Linda Kaneko Art Scholarship, which will be given to a local art student. With a donation to this scholarship fund, people will have a chance to win a gift basket full of artwork by the gallery members.
