Brook’s contemporary landscapes featured in ‘First Friday Artwalk’ event

Nevada City painter/designer LeeAnn Brook will be the featured artist for the month of August at Nevada City Winery. Her show and sale called “Interlude” will open the night of Nevada City’s First Friday Artwalk 5-7 p.m. Friday and will include live music.

Among many new pieces will be Brook’s 30-by-78-inch triptych called “Interlude” that received an award at this year’s California State Fair. Rich in glazes of deep blues and moss greens with subtle highlights of metallic gold, the moody painting is an interpretation of water lilies in a pond.

Another new painting called “Field of Dreams” gives an impression of a field of poppies bending in a gentle breeze.

While Brook’s work focuses on large format contemporary landscapes, she adds, “My paintings have become more and more like a ‘feeling’ in a landscape, rather than the landscape itself. I am fascinated with the abstract qualities that a landscape brings, and I try to incorporate unusual textures and colors that feel inspirational rather than photographic. When I paint what I love, everything falls into place.”

Having been a painter and graphic designer for more than 40 years, Brook’s world of art weaves between one and the other. While her graphic design business, Brook Design Group, started more than 37 years ago, she also has focused on building a body of work with her fine art for the past 12 years.

With two studios in which to paint, her fine art now has collectors not only from Nevada County, but also from San Francisco, Boston, Florida and Hong Kong. Visit http://leeannbrookfineart.com for more.
